- Bring enough filtered water to a boil to both warm the press and brew the coffee. When the water comes to a boil, pour enough hot water into the press to warm it, put the rest of the water to the side and let it sit for 30 seconds.
- Grind your fresh coffee to a coarse grind with no powdered coffee present.
- Dump the warming water out of the carafe and add a tablespoon of coffee for every 3oz / 90ml of brewing water.
- With your water temperature now at 198ºF / 92ºC vigorously pour the coffee over the grounds, making sure to cover all the grounds. Give the coffee a quick stir, put the top on the press leaving the plunger in the “up” position, and set the timer for 4 min.
- With 1 minute left on the timer remove the top to give the coffee a final stir, and then replace the top (up position) for the remaining minute.
- When the timer sounds, slowly push down on the plunger to the base, making sure to use a constant pressure.
- Pour the coffee from the press. Leaving the coffee in the press with the grounds for too long can lead to unpleasant bitter tastes.
- Enjoy!
